We’re well into our Spring / Summer release, and the support from our retailers, and media backers has been incredible! Check Your Six was picked up by Metropark, something that has always been a goal for us as we’ve built this brand from the ground up. We’ve loved all of the feedback that we’ve received – and the support that has surrounded the introduction of brand new items has been incredible!
In their own words, Cal Surf is the Midwest’s Premier skateboard and snowboard specialty store. Of course, we have covered the shop many times in the past, from our times hanging out at the shop to spending an evening with the boss of the floor (and awesome artist) – Garrett Perry.
The first thing that needs to be understood when you start a clothing line is that nothing happens overnight. Nothing. In the early stages of running Check Your Six, I constantly found myself filled with feelings of anxiousness and anticipation. Why had this brand not achieved the level of international success that I had envisioned when I started the company? Why was my brand following not massive? Am I ever going to see this brand reach the heights that I so desperately desire? I was either having a tough time curbing my problems of time management, or I was making the same mistake that small business owners across the world suffer from on a regular basis. I was expecting to shut my eyes a poor man with a small company at night, and open them a rich man with a large company in the morning. Of course, this is one of those feelings that unless you make a conscious effort to combat, it is only natural to suffer from. You want to wake up in the morning and find the basement that you have been remodeling suddenly finished! You want to wake up in the morning and find the small business that you love so dearly to suddenly be the colossal business of your dreams! Unfortunately, it is one of the most dangerous mistakes to make in the early stages of operating your business. It can be, and often is, utterly demoralizing. Ask any business owner if their road to profits took longer or shorter than they had originally anticipated. You show me a man or woman who tells you that it took shorter than expected, and I’ll show you a good liar.
We have received absolutely incredible support from magazines, blogs, and online streetwear sites covering our Spring / Summer 2012 release. The line has hit retailers around the country, is available at our online shop, and is moving unbelievably fast. Check out some of the support around the web below, and if possible…stay cool out there.
We recently added a new retailer, coming all the way from beautiful Omaha, River City Social Club. This shop, which stocks limited edition t-shirts, caps, and footwear; is absolutely gorgeous. The interior is completely custom, all of the fixtures are beautifully put together, and everybody at the River City Social Club team did an incredible job. Once in a while a place that really knocks your socks off comes along…really take away the spotlight. Well…now, it’s shining on RCSC.
Here it is folks. The much anticipated Spring release has finally arrived, and to our surprise as expected, things are already moving fast! We’ve picked up two new awesome retailers, Surfin’ Bird and River City Social Club, and have had some great exposure from longtime supporters In My Short Sleeve and IMF Mag.
As the weather finally starts to turn and American Idol season is in full-swing, the Check Your Six team is getting remarkably excited for what’s to come this Spring. We will be releasing the most well-rounded collection to date, something that…let’s be honest…should have happened a long time ago. Check out some preview shots of the soon-to-be-released accessories, enjoy the weather, and as always…Check Your Six!
Last week, I had the chance to speak with Moh Habib, the owner of Studiiyo23, a clothing & sneakers shop taking over Minneapolis. Studiiyo23, which is quickly becoming a staple for everything cool: Fashion, Art, Culture, Music, and Sneakers – is the destination for the fashion-conscious consumer in Minneapolis.
I asked Moh a few questions, giving us a look-into his store and everything surrounding its creation. After the jump is the interview, photos of the shop, and information on how you can join the movement!
